This should be the deciding factor. If you have Lowrance electronics, use the Xi5, if you chose better electronics and would like the better trolling motor buy a Minn Kota.

The anchor mode is outstanding, I really like the fact that I can use it to follow contours on my Navionics map; very useful for my kind of fishing.

The motor is silent and the motor or mechanism that make the motor turn is also very silent. It's very good on batteries.

The only complaint I have is regarding the cost of the Gateway cable.
I agree. How in the world could this be (mostly) priced at $250.00?

I shopped around and found it at Black Bear for $209 and jumped on it.

Hope it helps.

Pros:
-Spot lock is really good ... exceeded my expectations.
-Smooth quiet operation
-Easy on batteries ... I've never had the yellow light turn on during a single day of fishing.
-Reliable
-Lowrance interface (If you have Lowrance)

Cons:
-Remote and indicator lights leave a little bit to want. It's hard to tell what it's doing sometimes.
-Deploy mechanism is kind of a pain to use in rough conditions. Doesn't have a good handle.
-GPS cable for Lowrance HDS is obnoxiously pricey. I don't have one yet.
-Difficult to mount on some boats. I have mine cantilevered quite a bit to clear the rub rail.

I would buy it again. I think the biggest question pertains to whether or not you plan to integrate it with your plotter? That pretty much constrains the decision.
RnR Design slide plate and a MG QR plate has remedied that issue for me.
I wanted it to be:
1. as centered on the bow as possible.
2. not be worried about hitting the bow roller when launching or loading.
3. not have the head go past/beyond the rub rail in either position, forward or pulled back.

There are some good threads on THT about the Xi5.
One is on the Gulf Coast board.

You mean I made a mistake when I sold my Humminbird electronics that 2D screenshots looked like a cartoon and my MinnKota that the spot lock was only good for about a 2 boat length lock? Well maybe they are better now, but it's H/B and MinnKota that are playing catch up now.

I am not sure what you are saying? The remotes need real world testing to see what? The circle function won't circle properly?

The pros have been using it for months. It's released already into the real world--most of the bells and whistles have been real world tested

It is only the I pilot Link that has not been released to the public yet.

Out of all this great technology the biggest deal in the new stuff to me is being able to follow weedline contours with the trolling motor or transition lines contours after you map it out---can't believe nobody is talking about that

Humminbird and Minnkota have just launched the all new generations in trolling motors and fishfinders this year for 2017. You might want update your opinion as things have changed a great deal then from maybe when you have paid attention.

They are not playing catch up and only ever were in spotlock for a year and a half. Not to start a flame war but, read up a bit on the new releases---- there is a clear leader in technology right now---and by a ways.

Simple until its released to Joe Q public all the bugs aren't worked out, they never are, if they where nobody would ever have any issue's with anything, but they "pick any brand" are always doing updates, patch's ect to fix bugs.

The site won't let me log in for whatever reason. You can get ahold of me at mwuensch@charter.net. I'm right in West Salem, if you want to take a look at how it works.
