It did not help that the nation was so mismanaged before the storm that it was essentially bankrupt. The outcome would have been far less of an impact had basic services already been maintained before the storm. I have mixed feelings about it.

As the nation was already trying to get the US taxpayers to bail them out of their mismanagement prior to the storm, I do believe there are some there trying to use this as their opportunity to make that happen now. However, it is a shame the little guys suffer because of this storm, regardless of where it happens in the world.

The only time residents of PR want to be considered USA citizens is when they want to suck at the money teat.

There is no doubt that the PR government's officials overspent on many levels. But, this is not a new problem for PR as they have had financial problems for 25 years. What about the idiots with the investment companies that kept giving them money? I think they should take a haircut on the payback and maybe they would do more due diligence on their future investment.

The real problem as I see it is that a major disaster occurred and PR needs to be rebuilt. It is a US territory and deserve the same resources as Huston, California and other areas where disasters have occurred. I don't buy the statement that the only time they play their citizen card is when they need help. They have been trying to become number 51 for 50 years or more.
