Default Iraq

Is this going to another Vietnam war. One that will drag on for years as they have missed Saddam in the beginning. He has dug in deep and I personally don`t think he will be found. Any thoughts?

I don't think this will be another Vietnam for two reasons.

The president is not micromanaging the war. He is allowing the military to do its job, unlike Johnson who personally picked the targeting lists.

Also the rules of engagement are far different from Vietnam. The military does not have its hands tied.

What makes you so sure they missed Sadam?

I believe the resistance would be less. Cats have 9 lives, just wondering how many he has left!

Bob-
You, sir, are a cracker. We have been there less than a week and are nearly to the capital city of Baghdad. And this is like Viet Nam? Maybe you, like other misguided folks, thought this was going to be a bloodless, two-day excursion. Well, these people in Iraq will fight. However, not for long.

once they open a can of whip a** on the republican guard it will go one of two ways
1 the war will be over or

2 they will use WMD's as a last resort

I for one certainly pray for the first

I don't normaly weigh in on non-fishing topics here but I have to say that I am personally upset at how impatient "we" have become. The facts are that this war is less than a week old and we know have sizable forces on the outskirts of Baghdad. We have been systematically waging an airwar that is virtually uncontested and that has created significant harm to the opposing forces. While we have experienced losses they really have been minimal when you consider that this is a full on war.

Despite the above I constantly hear people and the media worried about how long "things are taking". This seems to be a reflection of waht our society has become. We are impatient in traffic, impatient when investing, impatient with effecting change through the political process and now impatient with a war that by all accounts is moving very quickly.

Ok, ok, I'll get off the soap box. I need to go fishing!
