If you have a hull problem where the hull is defective in some way or has a leak, you want to address it and fix it or scrap the build before you put a lot of money into the project.
If there is some kind of a defective hull issue, analyze the issue and determine if it is reasonable to resolve, or if it is better to cut and run before the expenditures become more excessive. Take care |

Post what you are looking for in a motor. You would be surprised at the amount of guys who want to upgrade motors but don't want to take the beating the dealers want to inflict if you trade in a motor.

Do the leak test ASAP, it won't take long for any leaks to appear! When redoing the electrical do not cheap out, use BlueSea systems components as they are top of the line products. Mercury Marine sells CPO (Certified Pre Owned) engines at a pretty nice discount.

The entire floor and all foam, both poured in place and expanded polystyrene blocks, are out. We have decided that we are putting back in place 1/2" Marine grade plywood and seal the @#$% out of it. Which obviously was not done before. We are devising a plan to keep the foam off the bottom of the boat to allow easy drainage, some testing is going to be involved. There is also an idea where we do not use Pour-in foam at all. That stuff was everywhere and just soaked, I'm really questioning what good it really does, except make your boat heavier after every rain and outing on the water. We are also installing additional aluminum flat strapping in critical spots to help stiffen the floor and not rely on the foam for structural support. We are also running 3 sets of electrical conduit, one on each side and 1 down the center line, and that is in addition to the electrical run under the drivers side rail. Tomorrow I cut and glue up the transom, then go about sealing it. That will be made out of 2x 3/4 Marine grade plywood. The thing to remember here is this is a boat my son will use for 2-3 yrs, then move up. We don't want to put too much money into it that we will never get back out. This boat when complete we are hoping to have no more than $4000 to $5000 into it. Because that is about what it will be worth. And the engine we have an eye on is going to cost about $3000 installed. We still don't have $1000 into it. Last edited by Aspencreek; 12-26-2019 at 09:12 PM. |

I get to deal with 2 guys locally that all the do is take in motors that other dealers don't want to deal with and take motors off boats that are insurance damage claims. They fix them up, get them running and sell them off. The engine I have my eye on came off a boat that was totaled when it hit a swim platform at night. Not a thing wrong with the engine, even has a stainless prop.
