If you are fishing for dolphin or billfish the distance you travel depends on your location relative to the “stream”.
If you are in Jupiter you don’t need to go far. If you are in Wilmington, Myrtle Beach or northern Florida prepare to go 70 miles or better. I’ve seen blue water 30-40 miles out of Wilmington but have always done better farther out.
You wouldn’t catch me out there with a single engine but it’s not uncommon to see a Sea Tow hanging out that far out.
