Default Where are the big fish on LOW

I love the challenge of finding and catching extra large walleye. My bucket list includes spending a few weeks on Lake of the Woods. August and September would be my window of opportunity. My question is where would you guys in the know base your fishing out of. Thanks guys.

Are you planning on using your own boat and if so, how big is it and what size motor do you have?

we spent the best part of 3 months or so up there off from middle of june till oct. and caught big fish all the time but Aug. was best for us, our best day was 14 in the slot from 22- 29.5 and 5 those were my wifes with 5 of them from 28-29 inches on spinners. all in 31-33 ft. of water in the mud, and a lot of other good days in Aug.

KP I have a 20 ft triton with a 250 merc. Can get around pretty well. I would like to stay in a campground that is situated close to the big girls. From Montana and am not familiar with the lake.

Best chance of getting a Lake of the Woods trophy walleye is not in the lake, but on the Rainy River. But, you have to fish it either early --mid-March until the season closes in Mid-April or in the fall mid October till early November. The walleyes run into the Rainy following the shiners in October and are still there when the ice goes out in the river in early to mid March. You would also have a good chance of hooking up a lake sturgeon. After fighting a few sturgeon you will wonder why you want to chase a walleye.

The big fish are out in the middle of the lake. Literally. Are far out in the middle of nowhere as you can get. Away from crowds. Away from camps. Away from aboriginal nets.

I know where they are. they are in the secret spot. 6 trips in a row with a lunker over 29 inches. Only hint, east side of traverse in the islands.
