Default SS Prop for Merc 150 4 stroke Comp. 205

Looking for info on a SS prop for my Merc 150 4stroke. It is on a Competitor 205 tiller. I have a 17 pitch 3 blade blackmax on it now. I like the prop on it. I just want a SS. I have heard its not as easy as just picking up a 3 blade 17 pitch prop.

General rule is going up two pitch’s with stainless steel. That can very of course. You would still need to test for proper rpm range. I use a 19 pitch tempest plus on my merc 150 that is on a 19 foot wheel boat. You will like a high end stainless prop. Better performance then the black max prop.

I liked the 19p Tempest Plus on my previous boat with the 150 Merc 4S. Solid plugs. Night and day difference between the black max and the SS. Mine came with a 19p Black Max though.

I have a 19P Tempest Plus on my 2010 Pro Guide (which is 20' like yours but not sure what your hull is like). With a 150 Verado I only turned it 5800 RPM. For my motor that was too low, max RPM for motor is 6400. Yours might be more like 6000, not sure. If that's right, 5800 would be about right. I like the Tempest Plus a lot,On my boat it runs it flat and I can't get front end to porpoise if I try. I also have a 19P Enertia, but I don;t like that one as much.
Ches.

What speed are you getting out of your setup?
I’m currently trying to dial in my 150 Merc on an 1875 Pro-guide and am not even close to max RPMS,

I’ve run a 19p tempest and it only got me 1 extra mph and increased the RPMs less than a 100 but it handled way better

I am running a 17 pitch aluminum I can max out RPM's if I trim the motor up enough. I can only get 41 or 42 mph. I get nice out of the hole and trolls down to 2.0 to 2.1. I can cruise at 3500 rpms at 25 or so mph's.

42.4mph @ 5150 rpms (full tank and batteries in) black max 19p x 14.5

43.4mph @ 5220-5240 rpms (full tank and batteries in) Tempest plus 19p

That’s exactly what I got when I tested mine a couple weeks ago, I may have some soggy foam so I’m looking into that.

My power head was replaced last year at 11.9hrs and performance was reduced quite a bit after and I’m still trying to find out exactly what is going on

Looks like you need at least a 17p SS prop.

This is a 150 hp motor on a 1875? I did not think 150 was possible on a 1875 and if you do then your numbers should be much better. My competitor 205 is not a light boat and our numbers are almost the same.
