Default Lund Outfitter Owners

I believe that the Lund Outfitter might be just about the perfect boat for me but I have a couple of questions for those of you that own or have owned this boat.

1) What differences would I notice between the true v-bottom hull vs the IPS hull? I read about the benefits of the IPS hulls so why does this boat not have one?

2) Has anyone been creative with rod storage on this boat? I typically take a minimum of 6-8 rods to the lake with me. Teenage boys can break a lot of rods during a week in Canada.

Default Alaskan maybe?

No responses yet so ill throw a couple cents in. I've never owned an outfitter but I did look at buying a few when I was in the rental boat business but Lund had dropped the side console version. I think if your concerned about rod storage then have a look at the Alaskan. I realize there is no raised casting deck on the 16 and 18 foot versions but I do know that it doesn't cost much more to go from the 16/18 footers to the 20 Alaskan. I've got a 20 Alaskan and couldn't be happier with the boat. Another similar boat to the outfitter but with rod storage would be the crestliner 18 foot Kodak, has built on rod storage. I owned several of these as rentals and they were fantastic. This hull does very well with a 50 gp four stroke which keeps the price down. Cheers

I owned a 2008 Side Console Outfitter with a 90 Merc on the back. I liked the boat for what it was/is. I had it on Leech, Mille Lacs LOTW and a ton of other bodies of water and it did just fine. With a narrower boat you do need to be mindfull if the wind gets too nasty.

I mounted additonal rod holders across the top of the side compartments of the boat. It worked great. I do a ton of musky fishing and could put 9 foot rods in them and they would not hit the bow. If you have any specifics you want to knwo I will follow this thread or shoot me an IM...

Default Thanks ...

I appreciate the responses.

Topwater: I have thought about the Alaskan but don't want to go to a 20' boat for the casting deck. Also want to stay with 40-60hp outboard. I'll take a look at the Kodiak.

Mojo: Any pictures of how you mounted those rodholders? I can PM you my email address.

Here are two "incedental" pics. I mounted one right about where the back piece angles down and the other in front of the storage latch. I used these on both the port and starboard side.
