Another 150 Verado Prop Question
I have a 2011 Ranger Angler 1860. I just bought the boat. Had it in Chamberlain SD last week and got a chance to try it out. It has a 150 Verado w/9.9 kicker. It has a Rev 4 19P prop. It seems to get on plane pretty good but at WOT I only see 5100-5200 RPM at 42 MPH. I am OK with the speed but really think I am leaving a bunch of RPM's on the table. I am thinking a Rev 4 17P is the answer. I am not all about speed but think i am laboring the motor too much. If I could gain a little more on the hole shot and get the RPM's up into the Merc WOT range I would be happier.
Anyone else running a similar set-up? Thanks in advance. |

Sounds like a step in the right direction, but your RPM's are quite low. You are looking to gain about 1000 RPM it seems.
Have you inspected the engine for leaks? I thought I read somewhere about a place in the Verado induction where a boost leak could be common. Might start asking around at Verado Club and see what you can learn.

I would also check to see what height your engine is currently mounted at. I've read the Rev4 prop can be ran very high compared to many 3 blades. Raising engine height should give you some RPM. Keep eye on water pressure while doing so.

I have a Verado 150 on an '09 Reata 1850, essentially the same boat. Mine came with a 19P Rev 4 and had similar performance to what you're describing. I switched to a 17P and noticed a significant upgrade in holeshot, gained some RPM and found no significant difference in WOT MPH. The boat is much easier to handle at lower speeds also. These are definitely not good hulls for speed. I think the most I've seen is 46/47 down river with a tailwind lightly loaded.

If I owned a 150 Verado, I'd reflash to 200 or 225. I think it's the same motor as the 200, different ecu tune. Then it may be possible to keep your 19P prop. Not much difference in cost between tune and new merc prop. I'd also play with the vent holes in your current prop to improve holeshot.

I looked into getting it reflashed also and decided against it. The tune was $800ish as I recall from Simons PLUS a new prop. Probably a 21P or 22P. This was all a couple of years ago. Prices may have changed at Simons. |

How much is a 17P Rev 4? I think at least $500. Whipple superchargers offers tune for $695.

You can buy used Rev 4 props on here all day long for $250. That's how I bought my 17. Sold my 19 for the same price so it was a wash. I still think a 200-225 HP "150" needs a 21P anyway. If my 150 could spin a 19 to within 500 RPM of max RPM a 225 version is probably going to put me 500 RPM past max RPM.
