Default How do you tow your trailer??

Saw this today (sorry for the awful cellphone picture quality) on a lake near Minocqua as we were leaving. The guy has a summer home on an island and they won't let him leave his trailer at the landing all summer so he decided to bring it out to the island. Back end is sitting on a good sized tube, front is on the smallest little jon boat type thing I have ever seen (8ft maybe). Seemed to be going fine for the first few hundred yards - hope they made it the 2 miles to the island!

Not like there isn't marine storage in the area! Tow the empty trailer up to woodruff and drop it at a storage lot. What some will do to save a buck.

I've seen more dangerous. Think of a 17' Lund fishing boat/trailer behind a pop up tent camper, which was being towed by a pickup in one case and a Ford Explorer in a second case. I wouldn't want my boat behind a pair of 10" tires that are only about 3" wide.
My trailer is attached to a 42" receiver extension. My truck camper is 3' longer than the bed.
That's why I own a Torklift receiver hitch.

The only reason the pop up pulling a boat worked was the lack of hills between their home and the launch ramp. If they tried to go down a big hill, excitement would have been the order of the day.

OK, so they cannot store their trailer at the access, so what to do now with the tow vehicle?

Float that too?

Actually it makes sense if you have to move a trailer across water without a tow vehicle. Considering the buoyancy of the tires, a trailer weighs little when submerged. I suppose in remote areas a trailer would be useful to secure a boat out of water by retrieving the trailer with a winch on land.
