I have used it some out to 40 foot. You can zoom in on the depth you want to see and also adjust the gain to see your bait better. I am still learning and trying different settings. It does seem that vertical lures are harder to see than lures that hang horizontal.

If you’re willing to put in the time to play with settings and transducer adjustments, it will work for your applications. I mounted mine on a PVC pole that I can point any direction I want as well as adjust the transducer angle however I want. Would be similar to the Fishing Specialties Pole with Perspective view mount. Fishing Specialties does have a YoutTube video showing their mount can handle 3.5 mph while trolling, my setup cannot. In this case, you could deploy their pole, turn it to look rearwards in “forward view” mode on the transducer and see your baits. If you wanted to look in front of the boat to see upcoming fish so you can adjust lure depth, then simply rotate the pole 180°. I haven’t been able to troll with my setup, hence my comments about trolling mentioned previously. As far as slip bobbering and jigging, I can’t imagine a better tool to place your bait exactly where you want it in relation to the fish. Find the fish by scanning an area, figure out their depth, then cast directly where your transducer is pointed. This takes practice, but in 20 FOW I can see my baits out to 70’+ from the boat. This is a great video regarding Livescope settings and being able to see fish on the bottom. I’ve yet to play with these bottom fill and trails as he explains. Fast forward to ~8:00 minutes if you don’t want to watch the whole thing: https://youtu.be/sJW4pMKQgak Here is the Fishing Specialties trolling video: https://youtu.be/N2LNdzi-ttk |

IMO the max reliable depth for walleye is right at 90 ft. Below that I still see some, but I'm pretty sure it misses some too.
Until I used LiveScope I would have said that the Vexliar Edge3 on 400 kHz was the best thing going for seeing walleye close to the bottom. -LiveScope is better. Even so, I know of no technology that will show you a fish dead on the bottom and represent it in a way that you know it's a fish instead of a rock.

Per others on this site I looked at Bass Boats Central site and it seems like everybody over there uses an EchoMap unit along with the Livescope/Panoptix and many have said that without the EchoMap the Livescope wouldn't be nearly as effective. So do others here share that same view? I was hoping my old Lowrance X-15 would be good enough for depth/waypoints and the Livescope would show if/where fish were located on those waypoints. Adding the EchoMap unit doubles the cost of the upgrade if not more, so I'm really wondering if it's worth the $$? Thanks !!

The Livescope setup only comes with a transducer (LVS32) and black box (GLS10) which you must hook to a compatible Echomap or GPSmap Garmin display. The Garmin Echomap 93SV UHD w/ no transducer is the best entry level option at the lowest price. You could save a few bucks on a 73SV, but I do not recommend a 7” display for Livescope. This is what you’ll need: https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/p/591379 And a display of your choosing. For economy and adequate display size, I recommend the 93SV UHD: https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/p/690363 I’ll send you a PM. |

A application myself and other walleye anglers are doing is using livescope/panoptix either one point it towards a weed line boat positioned outside and move along slowly. When fish are spotted pitch or lob a jigging rap towards them. Lowrance units I like with Airmar Transducers HDS 8 or 10 Gen 2, with sonar hub (chirp) HDS 9 Carbon or Gen 2 Last edited by Gary Korsgaden; 10-27-2020 at 04:37 AM. |
