Default 1992 Lund Baron Gran Sport 4.3 LX I/O

I just bought this boat. It is in excellent condition but it doesn't get up on step as well as I think it should and top speed is about 35 mph with a full tank of fuel (60 gallons). Anyone have any suggestions on gettting out of the hole better and/or more speed? It runs at about 4300 rpm at 35 mph.

I don't know the max RPM's for that motor, but I'm sure they would have to be between 5000 and 6000. Sounds like you are turning too big a prop. I take that back, I guess you are close to max on that motor.

I think max operating range for that motor was 4400-4800 rpm. You could drop an inch or two in pitch.

Go with a big diameter 4 blade, like the Powertech OFS4. That prop will help with holeshot and reduce prop slip to be more eficent.

I have '98 Lund Baron with the same engine. I added a "Stingray" fin to motor and it jumps on plane with no problem now and at lower speeds. It really helps in the 3-5 footers to be able to go slow and still be on plane. I didn't want to lose any more of the top end, so I didn't drop in pitch. I'm running a 19 pitch and get about 35 mph at WOT. -Hooch-

Is this speed using a GPS or the boat speedometer?
