Default how to get temp gauge on mercury 125

so i'm boat motor paranoid, I have a 2003 merc 125 that is pretty sound and i would really like to keep it that way. I think its really dumb that these things don't have temp gauges on the dash (crestliner 1750). Since when is it ok to have your motor blow because a 5 dollar rubber impeller came apart you know? I want to put a temp gauge on the dash, it dosent have to look pretty, so if i have to run a wire from motor to dash and just stick it on there so be it. there has to be some options right? do these motors have a built in high temp kick out? even if so i still want some type of gauge

Most motors have an over temp sensor.

Generally it is in the head of the motor. Depending on the model, it may be possible to remove that sensor and replace it with a temperature gauge sending unit.

Another possibility is to use a exterior surface mount on the motor, but would need to research it to be sure that it would work with your motor.

Good luck

This temperature sensor MAY work for your motor:

Then, you would need to also purchase the dash temperature gauge.

This gauge and sending unit might work.

Good luck

Can you buy an engine interface for it to connect it to a NMEA network?

Mercury makes it tough and EXPENSIVE to do that and I'm pretty sure it's not possible on that year motor.
