Default Social Security Advice & Experiences

Getting this close to finally retiring and I have a question on social security - especially to those who have just filed & started to receive their benefits.
The question I have is how long did it take you to complete & submit the necessary forms to the time to actually receive your first check?

Go online and set up your account there. The last thing you want to do is go into the SSoffice and fool with paper work. Do it now and you can choose when you want to start receiving your money.

I think I filled mine out in Oct and got first direct deposit in January.

Did it all online. The only gov't program I've ever been involved in that worked as it was supposed to.

Go to the SS website and set up an account. You should apply 3 months before you want to receive benefits. After you apply you will receive a call from a benefits coordinator explaining the process and other benefit options you have.

Go online four months prior and you can pick your date.I had my best advice in person. The wait was quick and I was given more information than you get online. Three months is cutting it close. I started receiving my SS benefits and money while I was still working. Good luck.

I had the same experience. I did it online and thought, "this will never work", but it was a flawless procedure.

You can set up your account anytime. My wife and I did it at 63 so it goes smooth when we take it at 66 and 8 months.
