Default Oil for Yamaha VMAX

Hello all,

I have a 98 Yamaha VMAX. I need to oil to the reservoir and was wondering what others are using. I figured with a Yamaha outboard, it would be best to use the Yamaha brand Yamalube 2 stroke oil, the problem is I don't know what brand the previous owner used, and I don't know if it is a bad thing to mix two brands. When i got it there was a full quart of Mercury oil in the boat but i can not be sure whether that was what he used.

So basically - two questions:
-Is it best to use the Yamalube brand oil for a VMAX
-How bad is it to mix two brands of 2 stroke oil in an outboard

Don't worry you should be able to use any TC w3 oil, as any brand of TC w3 should mix with any other brand and work in any 2-stroke that calls for TC w3.
That is the reason we have standards.

To be more clear.
Yamalube is not any better than any other QUALITY oil brand.
No, mixing oil brands is not a problem.

I used Yamalube for the most part, sometimes Evinrude's semi synthetic as well. Mixed them with no issue.
