Default solix/helix side imaging frequency

Which frequency do you use most often on these units? I thought I'd be using nothing but mega but find myself normally using 455. Anyone else?

I have mega plus and haven't switched it off mega because my images come out so clear. I'll maybe have to mess with it this weekend and see if there's anything better which I doubt based on how clear my images were.

Great. Let us know what you think. I seem to get a more effective "reach" while still maintaining a great picture. Maybe it's just my imagination but....

This isn't a real good pic but this was taken on my helix in 38' at the 420 frequency. Mega seems to give a clearer pic but not the same effective reach from side to side. I'm wondering if you or anyone else notes the same?

I have had SI since 09. I don't have a mega + yet, but I will tell you 455 gets it done. If conditions are right Mega is great but just like 800 you have to mess with is more and If I am busy catching I don't have time for it. My Mega works much better than the 800 did but in the deep water I am usually fishing in these days 455 is still my default. Mega + with the longer range might get me using Mega more often. Bob

I have a Solix 12 mega SI on the console, and a Helix 12 gen 1 (non mega) on the bow. Both units stay on 455 almost full time, because of the range that 455 gives.. Mega, in my opinion, is being sold and bought as an end all frequency to be used full time, but in reality, If you know how to use SI, its the last frequency you should use as you zoom in on places you want to fish, or even the fish itself. They are touting mega + for more range, but I just not seeing that its worth replacing hardware for the little bit of increased range, when 455 still outperforms mega + in the range department. As the khz climb, clarity increases, but at the expense of range. Heres a school of walleyes on the missouri river where Im using 455 from my Terrova with 200 feet of range, 400 feet of coverage. That is why my units stay on 455. I dont need mega to tell me what they are. About the only time i mess with mega, is after I have the fish in the well and are just playing around. I say: 455 is a big old knarly 25 ounce checkered face framing hammer, and mega is a 12 ounce finish hammer.

Interesting information. I'll have to play with the transducers this weekend. I've only been on mega plus because I've found it so detailed. I've also only had my range setting at 80 ft so that could be part of the factor why I've been so happy with it.
