Quality of verado engines
In the market to upgrade boat. Likely used. Originally thought verado were great merc motors but heard from a Lund....and therefore merc...salesman that verado weren't the greatest but current 4 strokes are great and on par with Yamaha...my current outfit has a 115 yammy 4stroke efi and it is one awesome motor. But if faced with a merc verado...any concerns by first hand folks.

Dodge is known for such and such, don't buy them. Ford is known for problems with such and such, stay away from them. This is the same argument with every type of branded purchase. Every mechanic that deals with a specific brand is bound to see certain problems more often. I know a lot of Verado owners that would buy another one in a heartbeat. I've had Mercury for a lot of years and will continue to buy them for a lot longer. I had a friend that was a marine mechanic for a Yamaha dealer. There were several models he cussed for having certain problems. He now runs a boat with a Mercury motor and couldn't be happier. If you like the boat and it has a Verado, I wouldn't be afraid at all. Good luck and tight lines.

In 2011 I went through the same thing before buying a new boat. Was not a merc fan but ended up with a 2011 175 Verado and have had zero problems. Like anything take care of them and they are a solid motor.

Friend of mine owns a marina that's been in business for many years. He sells Yamaha and Mercury. I asked him about the quality of the 2 motors, he indicated, "jump ball". Both very good. No major issues in the last few years.
Good luck
