Default Where do you store your gear?

Years ago back when Al Lindner was on In Fisherman he made a comment about storing rods & reels in the garage. He said that mono could pick up smells found in the garage such as gas & oil. He then went on the explain that a bass or walleye’s sense of smell was xxx times more sensitive than a whitetail. Since seeing that I always brought my reels inside as well as my walleye box.
Can anyone validate the theory of mono picking up smells that adversely effect catching walleye?

I keep a dozen rods stored in a homemade rack on the ceiling of my shop. Oil changes, small engine repairs, wood stove all winter, spray painting all the time. Last week I dusted off 6 trolling rods and re-tied the swivels and went fishing. Wife and I boxed 8 eyes and lost 2 at the net (my bad) in a few hours.
So for that reason I don't think it matters. But then maybe if I didn't store them in the shop, I would have caught more.

What makes one think that the smells in the house are any better?

I don't think mono is very porous so it shouldn't pick up much for odor. Braid would be more likely to. I guess if Al Lindner said it, it must be true, but I've kept rods and tackle in the garage for as long as I've been fishing. I sure hope I haven't been missing out on catching more fish.

I would be more concerned about the human smell(especially of older males), which emits from the hands of many of us older geezers. I don't think it should be necessary to provide super no-smell bags to store all fishermen's' tackle, clothes, boat seats, tackle bags, etc.

What fish detect as a smell may be vastly different than what humans detect.
What may be unpleasant to a fish may be vastly different than what is unpleasant to humans.
Even humans can not always agree if a certain smell is pleasant or unpleasant.

I'm more concerned about the amount of smells being emitted by my fishing partner.

I don't think it's worth worrying about.
