Sure your check engine light was related to DEF? My check engine light has been on over 40,000 miles on this Dodge. Cummins is rock solid, however the rest of the truck is a Dodge.
Memorial Day...... the time we remember those who sacrificed everything to give us the right to complain about our President and way of life.

Yep local temp went from about -20 to +10 and CEL went off and stayed off. My best pal a LONG time Mopar mechanic suggested I top off the DEF tank w/ about 2.5 gallons which i did. I took it to the dealer and the Dealer was stumped as well and agreed w/ me about the DEF. was the issue I was as surprised as you about the freezing at 12 degrees. And not able to add anything to keep it from freezing. To me DEF has killed diesels.

Bellbuoy is correct Def freezes, Def tanks have electric heaters,or line heaters for cold weather, the Ecm will let the engine run a certain amount of time with out Def well it unthaws, and not set off warning lights.

I recently purchased a 2014 Grand Cherokee EcoDiesel. It gets 19-20 MPG (hand calculated) towing at 70 MPH. Seems too good to be true, but it isn't.

The lawsuit for the EcoDiesel is over as of this week. Current/previous owners will get a check from FCA if they have their vehicle flashed. From what I understand, the new programming is basically what has ben in the 16/17 1500 EcoDiesels.

Info on the settlement is here. https://www.ecodieselsettlement.com

I towed the boat in the first photo from Gillette WY to Denver about a month ago. 18.6 MPG.

The second is a boat I towed from Billings to Denver. 18.6 - 19.95 hand calculated.

The 1500's get a little less MPG. I am really impressed with the engine and transmission.

My dad is on his second ram 1500 eco diesel and I'm on my second ram 1500 hemi.

I can say that any issues with the eco diesel are resolved by 2016 and in cold conditions you might need to run grill covers.

He gets amazing mileage for in town and hwy driving but when we are towing it's much closer than not.

Given we tow a small percentage of the total vehicle use I'd still recommend it if the fuel savings to annual mileage makes sense. In my case, I'm towing 90% of my hwy driving and work 5km from my house so I just couldn't make the price difference up in mileage.

Great truck, we're both happy with our rams.

Default No problem

Grew up loving adventures. If I'm towing my RV what I use is my Ram 1500 just added a towing receiver. Got the OEM one https://www.ramsareus.com/sku/82215222ab.html. As for my experience with it towing, pretty strong and reliable...to be honest no problems with it since got a brand new one and still new. The only problem with rams is their uconnect player.
