Default Battery Connection Question

I have a Lund 1675 Impact. The finders flash on engine start up and the draw of running the live well has killed the battery. I want to run 2 batteries, a starting for the motor and a deep cycle for everything else.

Is it as simple as running the small wires attached to present battery to a deep cycle and leave the 2 large cables on the starting battery?

Thanks

FMD

FMD,
Pretty much, but what is your plan to charge the extra battery?

The boat sleeps in my garage so just use a schumacker 3/15 amp clamp on charger. Will just use that on the Deep cycle and pop on the starting battery as it should not run down now.

You could tie the two together in parallel- effectively making one large battery, then your motor when running would charge them. If you're making short runs it wouldn't be much of a charge but it would be something.

Edit- just noted you said deep cycle for the second battery, only tie them in parallel if batteries are the same. They do make dual purpose deep cell/starting batteries if you are going that route.

If not then yes, you got your answer already, just add second battery and move all accessory wires over. I always add a fifth battery to run my graphs, sonarhub and lss1 to isolate interference issues, works well.
