Brand New Helix 7 G3 DI/SI with poor quality down imaging (see pictures)
Hello all. Bought a brand new Helix 7 G3 MEGA DI/SI to bring to Canada. First time in the water today with transducer mounted on a portable bracket. I had my brother's brand new first time in the water Helix 5 G2 DI in the boat as well. The down imaging on the Helix 5 was crisp and superb. The Helix 7 was fuzzy with no detail at all. The side imaging was the same: fuzzy and poor.
This occurred with both units running on factory defaults. I would try making numerous adjustments, to the frequency choices, sensitivities, clutter, etc. It did not change. The transducer for the G3 is what it came with: XNT 9 HW MSI 150 T. Transducer for the G2 is what it came with: XNT 9 DI T(RD) Mx. I did run the G3 with the G2 turned off to ensure there was not interference. The result was the same. I have attached screenshots from the two units to show the difference. The snapshot was taken at basically the exact same time. The software version for the G3 is 1.830. It looks like an update is available. Any thoughts? The Helix 5 was mounted on an identical portable bracket. It is a recommended bracket from Cabelas.
https://www.cabelas.com/product/Port...OS&emailname=2 Of note, and this is where I am feeling foolish, is that I had the Helix 5 bracket immediately next to the Helix 7 bracket. In other words, the pucks were so close they could almost touch. In hindsight, the Helix 5 puck likely obstructed the Helix 7 puck's side imaging? My understanding is that the Helix 7 creates the down imaging using the two composited side images...if a side image is obstructed that closely with the transducer puck, I am suspecting that that would be enough to distort or cloud all the imaging? Crazy how I am all worried about my locator for my Canada trip in 18 days when I should be worried about closing on our new home in 12 days and selling ours. Might be two days before I can go and test my theory. |

For a truly accurate comparison, both should be on the same freq. in the picture, yours is mega and his is 455. While I think youre should be better, the bottom may be grassy, and its showing up that way. I dont use mega much. so I dont have alot to offer..
