Most of the tolls around CHicago are under $1 if you have Ipass (for regular car) . Therefore, I really dont pay much attention and every 3-4 month got re-charge CC email. Since this was somewhat more frequent recharge, it got my attention.

David Anderson. I would just get an iPass or ezpass. Normally you do have to setup a online account using a credit card. Going through Illinois with there in motion toll reading of iPass is cheaper. Plus way better then pulling off to pay cash. Kind of a pain avoiding tolls when towing a boat. Never understood why people stop and pay cash. When the iPass and ezpass systems normally charge less.

I totally get Illinois and it's use of toll roads on the heavily traveled corridor with lots vehicles just driving through. Pretty sure Wisconsin has no toll roads relying only on gas taxes, and even the Merrimac ferry crossing the Wisconsin river is free, just drive on/off. A little known fact that I was watching closely was the former WI governor was getting very cozy with the toll road people and bringing it up quietly every so often, saying just a little here and there at the border. With him it was easy to see that by now it would have been a lot of here, there, and likely everywhere.

In Illinois there are no more cash booths. All payments are done online if you do not have an ipass/ezpass. No more stopping on toll roads everyone uses express/ipass lanes now.

You don't need to drive the toll road. Take a different route. Of course it will take longer. How much is your personal time worth?

And that`s one of the reasons the PA tolls are so high because money from the tolls go to repair 80.I use it from time to time ,Lots of semis . out of state road warriors( NY and NJ ) and always construction zones that go on for miles. I prefer the Turnpike.
