Radial vs five ply tires on Boat trailer

Seems to me I heard Radials are not OK on a boat trailer. I'm going to replace my eleven year old tires and it seems that tires are hard to get because of all the RV people are active. The five ply replacements for the OEMs are hard to get so the tire guy is recommending radials. Says there better for long trips. I'm going to Vermillion ( approximately 500 miles) in late September. Any recommendations will be appreciated thanx jim

I put 120 miles on my trailmaster trailer with their stock radials every weekend. Have not had any issues. Wonder if the radial versus ply tires is more of an urban legend. Can you point to any specific data to support your position?

All 4 of the trailers I owned came with radials from the factory and again, never had a problem.

I’ve run Endurance since they came out. I’d say they are easily the best trailer tires I’ve ever run. We tow a lot - 5000 + miles a year. Endurance has worn well and improved the way the trailer tows.

Fwiw, you are way long on how old your tires are. Regardless of where they are stored vid never run them for more than 7 years. I replace mine at 5. You can’t always see dry rot and a tread separation at highway speeds will cost you way more than what a new set of tires will.

Absolutely true. 5 Years MAX! Had 2 blow outs years ago on tire year 6. Will never let that happen again!

I've had wonderful service out of the radials i.ve been running but I have 14's on my trailer now. when I got it it had 13's and it didn't matter which tire I used I would have at least 1 blowout on my annual fl trio. so I raised the fenders and went to our local RV supply store that sells overstocked items. I bought 5 radial 14" d range tires on wheels and ran them for 5 yrs and put new ones on of the same tire. I will always buy radial when I have a choice.

Radials run cooler than bias ply tires in my experience. My last single axle trailer ended up with Endurance tires as it ate ST, B and C rated bias and radial tires.
Note that ST tires are rated for 65mph so if you’re driving 500 miles one way, maybe keep that in mind. My C rated radials were rated for around 75mph and lasted about 12 minutes there until one separated. (An 18 1/2 foot boat with a V8 I/O with a single axle was a dumb move by Lund.)
