Default Ram 1500 wEco-/Diesel Owners ?

I have a 14 Ram w/Hemi and the 3.92 gears. It pulls fine but when the wind it likes its fuel. I am considering a Ram 1500 w/Eco-diesel. I know many of you will say get a 3/4 or 1 ton but I like the ride of the 1/2 tons.

So for the guys that have a 1500 Eco-diesel how do you like it. What are you pulling and what kind of MPG's at what speed?

Thanks in advance!

Do a google search... lots and lots of issues.
They seem to spend the same amount of time in the shop as the street.
New ram is pretty sweet. Ford also has the eco boost that is diesel like for a half ton.

I had a '15 with the Eco Diesel. It was a Limited with air ride suspension and it rode like a Cadillac. I think the only thing it didn't have was some kind of sun roof. It was real nice to hook up trailers with the back up cam and the air ride. Go in low and raise up into the hitch. I sold it with 30k and not one problem. Our kids called it an old mans truck because it was so nice of a ride. No trouble towing.

The best mileage I got was an even 30 on the highway. It's the same diesel Chevy is using in the Colorado.

My neighbor bought a new one a few years ago before he passed away. He made a trip from central Illinois to Florida and back and claimed to get 30mpg. He bought it to tow a 27' 5th wheel camper. Unfortunately, he passed before the first trip with the camper.

I own a Ford F150 with the 3.5L V6 Ecoboost and tow a boat and 5th wheel with it. Sometimes both at the same time. In fact I just got back from a 400 mile trip with the camper and averaged 12.3 heading to my destination and about 10mpg heading home. The 20mph cross wind turned into a 20mph head wind half way back. Heading down my cruise was locked at 1700rpm and coming back it was locked at 2100rpm. Both doing 60mph. the truck didn't have any problems with the winds. However the rocking back and forth put both my passengers and the dogs to sleep. The truck never swayed, not even while being passed by semi's. It was like a cradle.

Will this be garaged at night? DEF freezes at 12 degrees and there is no additive for it. One reason I traded my 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited with the same engine. Don’t forget, with that class action suit it could be re-programmed and as they say your mileage may vary. If you want a diesel to tow with, might I suggest a Cummins. Owned one for most of the past 26 years, nothing like it.

The payload of the ecodiesel is rather dismal. If you plan to use your truck like a truck consider the F150 powerstroke 3.0 diesel for significantly more payload and towing capability if you really want diesel. I have the 3.5 Ecoboost 4 x 4 Screw, maxtow.

Get yourself a 2500 Ram with the 6.4l hemi. It will pull everything, won’t cost an arm and leg in fuel, DEF fluid etc and is easier to maintain. It has more HP and torque than the eco diesel. The 2500 rides like a truck is supposed to ride. The 1500 ride like old land yachts of the 70/80’s.

Of course I own a 2015 Ram 2500 with the 6.4l so my opinion is somewhat biased.

If DEF freezes how can diesels run North of the Mason Dixon line? I have a 2014 with 280,000 miles and it has been in Minnesota it's whole life.

My check engine light came on during a bad cold snap and went off after thawing, and DEF does crystallize at 12 degrees
