I can almost smell the puppy breath....I love that smell.

Congrats on your new baby! She's going to have a great life with you.

I think that once you end up getting either a Golden Retriever or a lab, it is difficult to own any other breed. We have had a lot of different dogs, german shepards, shorthair pointers, cocker spaniels, collie. They have all had their benefits. We are golden retriever fans now. The train-ability of the dog as well as the level of discipline is incredible. I just talk to my dog and tell it what to do and she does it. A bit surreal.

I could see myself trying out a lab one day too. I've had friends and family with labs and they likewise have glowing remarks. High intelligence, exceptional social skills.

I'm biased, I guess. I hate being around undisciplined dogs that seem to be as dumb as a rock. Or perhaps that is the characteristic of the owner showing through in the dog.... LoL. Just seems like working dogs are crazy bright.

What I have learned training my 2 labs is you have to be one percent more persistent than the dog. If its the other way around the dog wins. Like a child, they will test you until you lay down the law. Dont give in to them. Although most of you already know this, some may not.

Lucy is a really nice looking pup goosechaser.

My black lab "Moose" isn't a pup anymore but he still thinks he is.

I have had two other labs before. My first was a a dog with high drive and loved training and running drills along being a great hunting dog. My second dog had so much drive she was hard to control. I would also add that she was on the stubborn side. She eventually became a great pet and house dog. Time will tell with this one. I will be following Tom Dokkens Total Retriever Program this time around. Lets hope for the best.
