Default 115 merc 4 stroke fuel pump

As stated I have a 115 Merc 4 stroke I bought last year. Before that the boat had a 90 etec. I have a spin on fuel filter and need to change it.There is no squeeze bulb in the fuel line. If I just turn the key on will the pump fill the new filter and how long will it take? If I try to start it and the filter/fuel line isn't full will it cause any alarms? The dealer I bought the motor from is out of business now cause the owner died last winter.

There is an inline fuel filter that should be changed as well. I changed mine a couple times, never an issue with starting after.

Are you talking about a water separating filter. If so it is good to fill the filter with gas before spinning it on.

Thanks for the replies. I really didn't want to fill it with gas first because any spilled will go into the bilge. I guess I can put it in a plastic bag then screw it on.

Never had any spill. No different than taking it off. Put a small plastic container under it.
