I hope it works out!
That 30 does kind of jump out as the best bang for the buck in that grouping. Based on my past experiences with boats I think maxing out the horsepower is almost always the best strategy, but boats in the size class you’re looking at seem to do best with the smaller engine. You’ll eventually run into a scenario where the extra power would be nice, but most of the time I think the benefits of being lighter offset the power deficit. I call it mine, but it lives at dad’s house...we have an older 16 Rebel Lund with a 40 horse. It’s a bit heavier of a boat than the SSV but not by much. The 40 works well on there but if I had to do it over again it absolutely would have a 30. The lighter engine would balance better, it would troll slower without all the in-and-out of gear exercising, and the drop in top speed would be hardly missed. Good compromises. Best of luck. Steve |
