Disk Brakes
So was going to do some preventative maintenance on my boat trailer by replacing the bearings. Never dealt with disk brakes before.
How do I remove the disk brakes so I can remove the hub and get at the bearings ? Special tool available ? dvl2700

YouTube is your friend. Watch a few videos before you start. But to answer your question, after removing your wheel, loosen and remove the two bolts that secure the caliper to the bracket. The caliper may need a little prying to lift off the rotor, but it'll come off. You can then unscrew the wheel nut and access the bearings. Use disc brake bolt lube on the sliding surfaces of the caliper bolts when reassembling. You may also need to use a C clamp to compress the caliper plunger right before reassembling.

If you have trouble depressing the caliper piston, just pick up a caliper piston tool:
https://www.harborfreight.com/Disc-B...sor-63701.html A C clamp will work for most calipers, but now and then you run into one with a unique shape or size such that a c clamp will not work. Take care |
