Best way to manage biting flies in boat

My wife will be joining me and our boy's for a Canada adventure for the first time. Outside of bug spray is there any trade secrets or tips to manage the rat *******s so they don't ruin the experience for her? I'll pick up a flyswatter so she has a weapon for the boat and know to try not to get fish slime on the carpet. I'm sure this is a silly question, but best to ask and plan ahead.

Just wondering if there is a crazy trick I'm not aware of that we can try. No banana's are allowed in the boat.

Minimize exposed skin. Permethrin impregnated socks, pants, long sleeve shirt and hat with a neck and ear flap. Not stylish and warm in hot weather, but the lesser of two evils in my opinion.

Read up on Stable flies. Supposedly Deer-fly patches work. They are traps though, not a repellent. Probably plenty of other trap options since these flies are nuisance to farm animals. Apparently lemongrass oil works as a repellent, but not sure where you get that or how safe it is. DEET does not work. Permethrin and Allethrin based repellents might offer some protection.

Coppertone sport is in the glove box. Same with the deer fly patches. I have plenty of other stuff including the dryer sheets. Hat's with the back flap and standard issue fly swattrers and one that shoots sand or salt. I figure make a game out of it if it's bad enough, to get it out of her head and who shoots and kills the most wins a pot of cash we all pay into. We can do this in the cabin too!!

I Just don't want the woman to get too pissed and want off the boat.

Also trying Absorbine JR. I know it works for Knats, but maybe flies too?

Fish in the wind and a few thermacells running in the protected areas of the boat.

Pants and Long sleeves are always a good idea.

Peruse up on Stable flies. As far as anyone knows Deer-fly patches work. They are traps, however, not an anti-agents. Most likely a lot of other snare choices since these flies are a disturbance to cultivate creatures. Obviously lemongrass oil functions as an anti-agents, yet not certain where you get that or how safe it is.
