I know it's old but use it on a river. Year ago it started up fine, in neutral it revved up great, but put it in gear and no longer would rev up. Would run but boat only goes 2 MPH. Just won't rev up in gear(forward/reverse).
Someone said power pack, someone said maybe linkage. I'm not mechanical. Any ideas? Thanx a bunch & good fishing to all. |

Daredevil,
The motor needs a full check up. Compression, carburation, ignition. Fix the defect or defects and the engine will run well again. Best wishes. |

I had a similiar issue on my 94' 60 HP Merc. Turned out to be the "trigger" unit. It a round sealed electronic component located under the flywheel. When they are failing, its like the motor won't kick into the next "gear" and runs at low power.
Just do a search engine search for Mercury trigger and you'll find all kinds of information. |

Search troubleshooting “switch box mercury ignition issues” there is a ton of info on the net. Personally if you have a dealer well versed in the 2 smokes, bring it there. With all the correct breakout harness’ and test tools you can troubleshoot a switch box or CDM Mercury 2 stroke in an hour or less.
