Thoughts on 2001 Mercury 200hp 2 stroke
I am looking at a multi species boat that has a 2001 Mercury 200hp 2 stroke carb motor on it. In doing a bit of research, it sounds like there have been many issues in the past with these motors so I am curious on everyone's thoughts on it.
I am awaiting on a compression test which should come back today. The current owner has only had the boat since last fall but said he is going from a single console boat to get a big tiller. That is a short time to own a boat though. I believe he may have purchased from the original owner (boat is a 2000). Given that this motor is almost 20 years old, is it safe to say this one likely survived the bugs/issues that were present in these motors? Anyone know what the specs should be for compression on this motor? I struggled to find the info online but saw a post from a while back saying 110-130 with no more than 15% difference. I've seen compression videos for motors with around 90 though so I am not sure what is considered normal. Any thoughts are greatly appreciated as I do not want to be dropping a lot of money to maintain or need to repower in the near future! Last edited by Reelaxin; 07-08-2020 at 01:00 PM. |
