Sturgeon Bay
Looks like our late September Canada trip is out so thinking about Sturgeon Bay instead. We have never been there and was looking for some info. We are mostly jig fishermen but cast for other things. It looks like there is not near the amount of places to stay with docking onsite. The problem with staying at hotels is the ability to charge trolling batteries. Do most fishermen there pull the boat out daily? I will be pulling a 2010 Lund Explorer up there. Any suggestions are welcome.

If it were me, I’d stay in Green Bay. Way more lodging options and I wouldn’t want to be tied to the east side. If you stay in Green Bay, you can be to Oconto in 30 mins on the west shore or be to Sturgeon Bay on the east shore in 30 mins. Weather is a huge factor on the bay and depending on wind direction, one side can be fishable while the other is not. For this reason, most people pull out every day.

I would too recommend Sturgeon Bay. Little Sturgeon specifically (Larsons Reef). You're 30 minutes from Bailey's Harbor which is beautiful. All of Door County is. Tons of stuff to do up that way. Grab some dipsy divers too and head over to the big lake for some king salmon if you get a west wind.

I have had mixed fishing results In door county. I did have enough slow fishing trips. Have not gone there for a couple years. I did not fish in September. Hopefully the water would start cooling off and the fish would start moving back into the small bays. I am not an expert on that. Because unless you are lucky. There is frequently allot of waves on Green Bay itself. Most people pull the boats out everyday. Not a huge amount of protected bays with boat slips for small boats. Since it is big water normally do not want to leave your small boat at a dock when it gets rough out.

Nice place to stay, plus you can trailer to three different launches within 20 minutes. If you don’t use a guide, Dale will point you in the right direction. There is a bait shop, Howie’s, I believe that will direct you too. |

Sturgeon Bay
The bite for both walleyes and smallmouth bass has been excellent in Sturgeon Bay, Oconto, and south. If you need some info message me here.

I like the whole dock the boat for the time of the stay myself but not with GB/SB its better to just trailer to the location the day of fishing based on the wind. Its only an extra few minutes to put the boat in, the launch's run smooth. You have a lot of options for launching and its important to know because north wind can suck if your tied to one spot. The nice thing about GB/SB is you can always find somewhere to fish no matter what the winds are doing. Good luck.
