Default Big Mac

Any recent reports for Lake McConaughy? Haven't been there in 30 years. Guide recommendations?

Back in the day LOL, we would target suspended schools of alewives and run crank baits over them. Come fall it was a vertical jigging presentation using slabs. I know there was alot of tree growth on the west end during the drought years and guys will run heavy spinnerbaits through them when the lake level rose. I'm thinking Jigging Raps and blade baits would also produce along with the slabs in the fall.

TIA
Phil

I have not been there in a few weeks. From the locals, it is still pretty much a late summer technique. The Fall bite has not kicked in yet. Trolling cranks over submerged timber and chasing the Alewives around is the best bet. There are several good guide services available. Top Dog is one of the good ones as well (Vogl's in Lemoyne).

Catfish are hitting everywhere, but especially at night off the dam.

Smallies are going strong on east end, near dam and rocky points. Wife caught not one, but 2 Master Angler Smallmouths within 30 minutes of each other off the face of the dam last trip.

Lake is way down, like it usually is this time of year. Spillway Bay, Lemoyne low water ramp, and Cedar Vue are about the only usable ramps now. Otter Creek is out of the water and a dry hole.

It stinks pretty bad depending on the wind, near the dam, from the discharge into Lake Ogallala. Bring nose plugs. LOL

Be careful running west. With the water level at it's current state, lots of trees to hit, just below the water level from Otter Creek and West. Have to slow down and really pick your way through them to prevent prop or lower end damage.

I'd say Lake Mac Spoiled is def one of the best guides out there, contact Brad Hahn.

Was up there around mid August when the Martin's bay ramp was still barely usable. Ton of baitfish balls, we had zero luck from cranks over trees to spinners/worms. Good luck out there

Thanks for the responses. It looks like a cool down next week so hopefully the fall pattern kicks in.
