Default How much backing on a 47 LC?

I am filling some 47s up with lead and want all ten colors on.

How much backing if I am using Fire to still leave me room for leader up to 50 feet?

Thanks in advance,

Just enough backing to anchor the lead core, 10ft max. I found that 18 lb lead core will fill 47LC with 9 colors lead core with little or no backing.

Thanks, I had been given the impression that you could fit all ten plus a decent amount of fire for backing and leader.

Mexico,
If you put 20 feet of backing and 10 colors you will have to leave one color on the floor of the boat. Like Doc said 9 is about all you can get on the 47's. Leave the last color on the spool.

Hey new mexico, I have been trolling with the same Diawa Sealine trolling reel for about 15 years now, (actually I never used it this year because a big carp fried it at Glendo and I haven't had it fixed yet). It has eight colors of 18 lb leadcore and 75 yards of Dacron Backing. If all you are fishing for is walleye's then the backing is not that important. But if you think you might encounter a big Trout or Stripers the backing is a must!! I had a big brown spool me at Pathfinder on one run! My buddy turned the boat and gunned the motor just in the nick of time! The new Florocarbin lines make excellent leaders off your leadcore, allowing you to go heavier than before!

I had 4 spooled up last year and had 50 ft of 10 lb mono and held 10 colors of 12 lb lead core and had room for 50 ft of 10 lb after the lead core. spooled up on Diawa 47 LC's.
