I dont know how familiar you are with the area, but Big Lake is a ways up the Echo Trail. There would be some difficulties pulling a larger boat up the road. But, I did fish the lake twice this year during ice. Did not catch a thing. Heard from a couple guys who lived out there that they had just as good of luck as I did. If you're heading up that way, I would recommend Fall Lake, Shagawa Lake, Birch Lake, or White Iron for walleye.

Skar, actually the Echo Trail is in pretty good shape for a dirt road. I would not hesitate to bring any boat on it. It is a gravel roud however so I would have my boat protected.

Ksand, I have a cabin on the opposite end of the Echo Trail from Ely. I would be happy to offer any advice. I have never fished Big Lake however. I cannot help you with that one.

What I am looking for is a decent fishing lake for multiple species that
is not crowded. We only have a basic fishing boat with a 25 hp motor
so I would like to stay on a smaller lake than Kab. We fished on Pike
Lake by Grand Marais last year and ended up trailering the boat every
day to different lakes. We did fish Devils Track and caught allot of nice
bass and a fair number of walleyes but most of the walleye were basic
eaters. If you know a nice lake with a resort or a nice cabin for rent
I would appreciate it. Plus if there are some hiking trails in the area.
Thanks for responding.

I believe you are speaking of driving the Echo Trail from Orr. I agree, I would take my boat that way. The Echo from Ely is quite a bit rougher, windier, and more narrow.
