Default Mudhole Rod Blanks

Any rod builders around with experience on the MHX or CRB blanks?

CRB are not that great but the MHX blanks are really nice. I’ve built several and I’m a big fan of them. I’m actually building a 7’ MF right now.

The mhx are nice blanks. A little stiffer than ratings imo. My first one was a 7' ml fast action. Its a little too heavy for a 1/4 oz jig but works great on 3/8 and up. I'm building a 6'6 light fast action now in the elite pro line. Should be a nice setup for 1/4 oz jigs.

MHX blanks that I have used to build on are fine. Like almost all blanks by just about everybody, the ones I have used seem to be way lure weight size underrated(i.e., 1/8 - 3/8 oz should state 1/2 - 3/4 oz) as to lure weight. I believe manufacturers do not want to make/sell more correctly labeled lighter weight designated blanks due to the thinner walls having a tendency to break more easily, such as the great action rods which Rapala sold a few years ago, the result being multiple returns for breaking. Just my opinion.

Reiterating, MHX blanks have been working well for me, getting back to the original query.

Just an FYI if you are considering a St Croix blank. St Croix is no longer offering blanks for sale. Mudhole has some left but that’s it. When they are gone no more will be available. Most other blank sellers have a post saying this on their websites.

Anyone know why st Croix took this decision? Were the blank sales cannibalizing to much of their retail business?

This practice seems to becoming more standard, a few other name brands have reverted to the same practice. Maybe just too much bother for the profit, possibly just a business decision, donno.

St. Croix will continue to sell the scv series from what I've heard.

I have used a couple of the MHX blanks.

Just purchased 3 CRB blanks when they had them 50 percent off to try them

One rod was a 6 1/2 foot medium power, so far the rod feels nice. Present for my Brother In Law.

the other two were 6 foot light action for perching.
