Default Sospenders on ice?

Anyone use these esp on iffy or early ice? You can be careful and still find a spring or other things that make a spot unsafe.

I remember that video posted here on falling through the ice and what to do. (anyone have that? might be good to post again) that video brought home just how dangerous it is to do this,..

You don't last long in ice water and and can't be VERY hard to lift yourself out.

I'm including some rope with a bit of weighted something that I might toss to someone that has. I also am arming myself with ice picks.

Great Idea....

except.....

The instructions say NO, unless partially inflated

Page 7 of instruction book

7. Never use in below

freezing temperatures unless worn partly inflated.

At or below 40°F inflation time with CO2 gas will be longer. Wearing a
partially inflated PFD under these conditions will provide some initial
buoyancy while the PFD fully inflates.

Caution:

Do not fully inflate orally and then inflate with the CO2 cylinder.
Repeated CO2 inflation after oral inflation will damage the PFD to the
point that it will not hold air or float.

Default An Alternative

We use the one-piece Mustang survival suits for ice-fishing. They offer thermal protection as well as reliable flotation. Great for those early spring and fall trips on open water too. Warm and comfortable.

It's been posted on the top of the ice fishing forum forever...we won't take that one down until the link to the youtube page no longer works.

I do not ice fish, but I do fish out of my boat all winter. I wear a Buoy O Buoy cold water survival suit, it not only keeps you warm but is floatation as well. Nothing to inflate or for temperatures to hinder, you just have to put it on and wear it.
