Default Lowrance Power Cable adapted to NMEA 2000

My lowrance power cable looks like the one in the picture ...

Up until now, I've just had the black/red cable hooked to power but am now adding NMEA. I have the starter kit and it's got the small round connectors. The power cable has the black/red/yellow cable; I've had the black/red cable connected to power - the yellow wire on it disconnected. What is this yellow wire for? Do I leave the red/black cable connected to power as before?

I want to add my HDS Gen2 Touch onto the NMEA network via the multi-colored wire cable. How do I adapt the HDS multi-colored wires to a small round plug so I can connect it to a T-fitting?

What part do I buy?

Thanks for your help!

EDIT:

I just looked at the back of the HDS and there's ANOTHER socket for the NMEA 2000. I guess that's where the starter-kit drop goes. So, what's the multi-colored cable for?

Looks like you answered your own question. Connecting the Gen 2 to a NMEA network will involve a completely different cable. Regarding the picture in your post, the yellow wire with the red and black power wires is a remote wake up for accessories like a SonicHub. When connected, it will cause those accessories to turn on when you power up your Gen 2. The other cable with the multi-colored wires is NMEA 0183...not the NMEA 2000 you want to set up. In fact, not a networking option you want any part of. I cut them off of my power cords cover them to cut down on clutter. HTH.

Help!

I got the backbone all in place, now it's time to hook up my new NMEA YAMAHA cable and ... the plugs are different! See pictures. My engine is an F200 2006 model but manufactured mid-2005. The ECU number on the printout is 60L0591A31 so if that A31 means anything the engine should be of sufficient age. Right??

Is there an adapter that I need to purchase. I'm seeing a few for $30 out there (ouch!!).

Don't think you have the right plug in your hand for under the engine cowling. The plug you are looking for is a 4 prong plug with only two wires coming out, a blue and a white one. Mine was located center of the motor all the way on the bottom in the front behind the latch. I have a 2005 f150 so your location should be the same. Don't know what you're holding, probably for optional sensor, but it's not the nmea 2000 one that you need.

Also you are going to want your nmea backbone to have switchable power. You have to be able to shut it off when not in use. Run the red wire through a toggle switch.

Thanks - I'll look some more. The NMEA backbone and my fish finder are connected to the switched power rack beneath the helm. I was happy to find it.
