De Pere/Green Bay report 3/15

With warmer temperatures breaking Mother Nature's icy grip, the spring walleye fishing on Green Bay and De Pere has started. Launches on the Bay are still around 50% open, with ice reported in Peshtigo and Marinette. I am unsure of the Sturgeon Bay area, but I do know Oconto Breakwater Park and City Park were open as of Saturday. The report for Sunday there was the NE wind blew the ice back in, so call first before planning a trip. De Pere launches at Brown County and Fox Point are open, and the bite has been good. We took fish up to 24" on jig/Swamp Donkey minnow combos, jig/plastic, and blade baits over a three day period. We found active fish in the main channel, along channel edges, on sand breaks, and mid river rock structures. Wind and weather played a role in our action, as winds to 40 mph made boat control a chore. FYI the limit on walleye on the Fox River is 1 fish 28" or bigger, and on the Bay the limit on walleye is 1 fish 15" or bigger. Perch season closes 3/15.
