Mapping, or Logging options...
Confusing subject for me,
To be clear, I'm referring to real time, actual 'charts' that you just created and stored on your Unit, in this case, Lowrance Carbons. How do you use them, are they user friendly, which program or format do you use and how do you like them. Insight Genesis? Overlay? Navionics? Sonar chart live? C-maps? Are there others? This is what I've figured out so far, the data can be stored on a 32gb or smaller card...... The rest is up to you guys.............. help a brother out.....I've watched several you-tube videos, I may just be too dense. TIA. |

How big a body of water are you planning on making maps for. If there is a map chip with good contours why bother to map your own? I know on HB you can use a regular map chip and overlay corrections to it. I don't know about the others. If you mention the lake someone might know if there is a decent chip for it. Bob

How do you use them, are they user friendly, which program or format do you use and how do you like them. Insight Genesis? Haven't used it much but plan on experimenting with it more this year. I am interested in the interaction with my current internal C-map and how it works with Navionics. My friend and I have been mapping a small lake in Minnesota where the depth contours are very general. The overlay to the built in C-map is impressive. I have been told to simply leave it turned on as you fish and move. Overlay? Fabulous feature however I will admit that I have the Sirius/XM Weather feature. I can set it for warning me of Lightning at 6 miles out, because of the Sirius/XM module I can overlay the weather on my chart and then go back 3 hours to see if the storm is headed my way or just passing to the north. I am interested in how the Genesis overlay works with all of my maps but it worked well with my friends Carbon unit as stated above. Navionics? Another good map chip, because I fish Lac Seul, I would not be without it. the C-map and Navionics each have their own advantages, C-map is worthless in Canada. Sonar chart live? Navionic's version of Genesis. Navionics shares the information when you update the chip while Genesis stores the information on your own card, for your use only. Also Sonar Charts Live only is valid if your Navionics subscription is current. C-maps? Lowrance's Mapping data, depending on the lake, may be very accurate 1 foot contours like Mille Lacs or none. Whether Navionic's or C-maps, each has it's own advantages. Are there others? It depends on what you are specifically looking for. They are fairly easy to use, Genesis comes with your current Lowrance at no charge. (or the latest Lowrance update)

So we can overwrite C-maps?
And then the Navionics chip, I thought I always heard never overwrite or store on a Navionics? If we can over write on these chips, why is most all videos I watch on tube involve a 32 gb micro-chip? |

While am not currently a Lowrance user, I am sure the mapping is simply laid(graphically)on top of the map graphics. The code is does not get written over on the chip.

My personal experience with mapping is using the In-sight Genesis on Lowrance units. The pre-loaded maps are general area accurate. When you are mapping, the depth differences are changing and are helpful.
I keep mine running all day while fishing, I have yet to upload my data to the Genesis site mainly because I am lazy. |

With a Navionics card with a active subscription you can create your live map
You can create your map with IG using a msd card; no need to any subcrition. If you split your sreen let say in 3 panels: 1 panel on Lowrance map, 2nd on Navionics if you have one (no need to have an acgtive subscription) and the 3rd on sonar. If your Navionics have the lake you are on and you want to do your own survey you then choose under overlay IG on the 1st panel. |

And when your mapping, the changes are overlaid on the Navionics card, or C-maps? How do you activate, overlay? |

which would be the C-map? If so, why then the need for the 'msd' card? Or, we are not able to overlay on the C-map which then requires the additional card? |
