Default Great Idea

This trolling motor was a great idea and way ahead of its time!! What were some of the issues that kept it from being a huge success? It's like the old version of iPilot Link!! Motorguide sure dropped the ball on improving and updating this product!!

I had the original Pinpoint and it was a great motor, until it broke. I then went with the Motorguide version of it, and it is great. I am still using it today. BUT, when it dies, I am going to try MinnKota.

I had 2 "older " pinpoints , 1 needed the board replaced after about 4 years of service . Motor clinic did it for around $600 ,worked fine even after I sold it with the boat a few years later.
Now I'm running the 36v motorguide (5yrs) so far so good.

The bad .... Very fragile, electric steering eats up batteries , gets lost in heavy wind.$$$$$$ Price to fix if it breaks.

The good ... I can work huge irregular structure and never touch the pedal .its like having a guide driving the boat. Lots of other cool features like 180 reverse. After you are finished tracking a break line you can touch a button on the pedal and it will spin the boat 180* and take you back up the same break.

I love mine !

I have two Pinpoints and have had then serviced by Tri State Trolling Motor Repair in Saint Louis http://www.tristatetrollingmotor.com/v2/index.php. Chances are you are up against a parts issue. Hopefully you won't run into the the three worst letters in the alphabet....NLA....no longer available.
I too am disapointed with Motor Guide for purchasing the Pinpoint technology and shelving it. My next purchase is likely going to be M K.
