Default lund fisherman 1800

Hey guys, been on website awhile now but finally signed up as a user.

looking to buy my first boat, grew up in a fisherman 1800 and loved the boat. wanting to purchase my own.

debating 2 trains of though, 1st is find a 05',06, or 08' thats in tip top shape and try to get for around $20,000 or a hair over.

Second is to buy an under powered little rougher boat for 12,000- 15,000 range and redo the carpet / seats and repower with a new mer 4 stroke or yamaha 150/175.

obviously the second will come out to a higher cost but basically feel like a newish boat once complete

any idea what i could trade in a early 2000's 115hp for and what it runs for a new mer/yamaha 150 rigged on a boat?

Any advice or things i am not thinking of that should be taken into account?

I would buy a good boat rather then a ruff boat. My Dad always told me you can’t make a silk purse out of a sows ear. A lesson I’ve learned many times cause I didn’t always take his advice.

I would take the new, optimum sized motor with a boat in rougher condition vs a 10 to 15 year old cherry, particularly if the rough condition was caused by exposure to the elements rather than abuse.

Boats age more gracefully than motors. So if you can verify the structure and wood components fix it up and enjoy a nearly new boat experience. If a boat has the original motor you can determine how many hours the hull has to get an idea about the amount of use on the boat.

New 150 hp will run you about 15 grand itself. Nothing wrong with an older 4 stroke that has low hours and was taken care of. I think so highly of my 05 Yamaha f150 that I'm buying a new boat and attaching the 05 motor.

Be patient and you can find both. Don’t accept the offered price and don’t show how much you like the boat when you find it. I found a used boat with just 100 hours on it they asked 30k, I got it for 23K, it was a great boat. I did a lot to it and sold it for 37k
