Smile Lake Winnibigoshish in June

With the border closed, we gave up waiting and decided to go to Lake Winnibigoshish again this year. Last year we went up in August and found, thanks to the advice on this forum, trolling was the best way of getting some walleyes and pike. We also did well with small Mr. Twisters on jigs for perch. Minnows did not do much for us. Red worms did nicely with perch. We stayed at Beckers Resort.

This year we are going the week of June 20th. What techniques and or baits do you recommend at that time? When we fished in Canada our usual method was to use jigs and minnows. Will this work at that time of the year in Lake Winnibigoshish?

Thanks.

Check out Jeff Sundins fishing reports, he shares a lot of fishing info for Winnie & surrounding lakes, saved reports has a few years of fishing information. Watch for his reports to come out before and during your trip. http://www.jeffsundin.com/Minnesota_...door_Links.htm

ACK,
Shiner minnows, leeches, crawlers and crank baits all work well at this time of the year.

Last time I was there was in June of 2006. Not sure if it still works but we killed it walleye fishing by using a crankbait called the Lindy Shadling. Not the new version but the older version, I think it was redesigned about 10 years ago. It was the only crankbait that worked which was unbelievable. And boy do I remember the waves on that lake on a few of the windy days! Good luck
