Rew ...true, but I do this for a living and I would be amazed if there is any loss on a cable 10 feet long (either a short,grounded side or a short to ground would be my test) that didn't have a defect,

Like you, I worked in the filed of physical properties, electronics and computers for my working life.

I aslo agree that it is not likely that there would be any significant voltage drop in a piece of good 8 gauge wire.

But, I also have seen cases, where the wire had changed and has corroded and has become resistive.

For example, if the wire has black wire corrosion, it could easily have a resistance of 100 ohms or more in the 10 foot length.

So, testing to insure that there is no corrosion and its ensuing resistance is worthwhile.

Also, if there is the slightest chance of this type corrosion, cutting back the insulation on each end of the wires to check for corrosion is not a bad idea.

Using the proper wire eliminates that situation. Marine Grade wire and connectors(copper&tinned)

Another vote here for new batteries. The Ulterra's use A LOT more juice to operate than the Terrova.

If your batteries are 4 years old, it's probably time to replace them with new ones.

Putting a new TM on the boat and using old batteries isn't a good combination.

I understand why you would want to blame the motor, (so you don't have to buy new batteries at around 1000.00 out of pocket...ouch!), but, if you want that motor to perform the way it is designed to...it needs the power to do it.

There's no question in my mind that your batteries should be replaced with new ones....sorry. I know it's not the answer you want to hear.

Simple fix and I'm very surprised REW hasn't mention this already. Replace all old batteries with new AGM batteries from Sam's Club. Then replace the TM with a brand new one of your choice. Problem solved....
