Default Which ice auger drill

I know this should be in ice fishing but more looks here. I just bought a Strikemaster Lite Flite auger and am looking for suggestions for which brushless drill to get. I would prefer to stay under $250 if possible. Thanks.

This is what the K Drill Auger recommends.
The required drill criteria for this system are as follows: half-inch chuck; minimum of 725 inch-pounds of torque; minimum 4 amp/hour lithium-ion batteries; brush-less.
They teamed up with Milwaukee and recommend this drill.
Milwaukee Tool M18 Fuel Drill/Driver (Model 2703-22)

I have looked at this system up have not purchased it yet.

Great deal last year on Ridgid 18 volt 1300 pound torque drill with 9 amp battery for $180. Came with lifetime warranty on drill and battery. It was introduction of Octane series, buy battery and charger, get choice of tool free. Keep watching Home Depot for special.

Take it back and buy an ice auger. The drill rigs are fine for light duty use, but if you have to punch multiple thorough 2 to 3 foot rugged ice you need the extra power torque of a gas or bigger battery. I bought an ION X and it couldn't to the job for my ice trips. I sold it and went back to gas unit. I have several friends who bought the K-drill and they are *****ing about them.

I have a jiffy gas auger as well. I don’t want advice on what auger to buy I want advice on what drill to buy. Thanks though.

I think any of the 18v + drills will work. I bought a K drill last year and use it with my 18v Dewalt. You just need to make sure that you have a large enough capacity battery. The battery my drill came with was a 1.8 ah, I believe. I could only drill 3 - 4 holes through 12" of ice. A 9 ah Dewalt battery costs more that what I paid for the drill combo. I purchased 2 knock off 9 ah batteries off of Ebay, for around $75. I have drilled 20 + holes through 12" of ice with one of the batteries, we will see how long they last.

I will say that I really like the drill - auger combo. Super lite, easy to use and portable. I throw the drill in my back pack, the auger in my sled and can go anywhere. Way better than my Jiffy gas auger!

I bought the Milwaukee M18 Fuel and two 5ah packs to replace my Jiffy Propane auger last year.

I'll put it this way- I sold the Jiffy Propane auger pretty fast. Drilling with the Kdrill and the Milwaukee is one of those deals like when you first get a smartphone, or a GPS for you car. You can't believe you lived without it, and how much better it makes the experience.

I've had 2 stroke, 4 stroke and propane augers over the years and frankly they all stink compared to the drill. Not to mention you then have a very nice drill for home projects.

So much lighter, easier to use, quieter, no fumes, no worries about "Darn it, my auger tipped over in the back of the truck and the carb has oil in it", no carting gas around, etc.. (forgot no yanking on cords, warm up, engine maintenance)

There are videos on YouTube of guys drilling 40 holes or so on a couple packs. Personally I prefer fishing to drilling holes, but if you're a hundred hole a day man you could always buy extra packs.

Dewalt 20v drill and a spare battery powers my 8" strikemaster all day drilling thru 18"
' of ice, as long as I keep the batteries warm (inside coat pocket). Most days I don't even use the spare battery.
