I just bought another one for my car this morning too, thanks for the reminder. It's an easy set up and an easy to use app. The video quality is fantastic even in the dark.

Did you buy the same camera for your car?

Yes. Tracking says it should be here today, but it's coming USPS, so I won't hold my breath.

Here’s my Garmin mini inside my Honda Ridgeline. Unless you look for it from outside it’s quite inconspicuous. Where it is behind my mirror I don’t notice it from any of the seats inside the vehicle.

Yes, that is snow on the hood. In southern Illinois. On April 20. It was almost 80 degrees yesterday...weird.

Default Recommendations still valid?

Hey Gang.

Time to buy a dash cam. This post had a number of recommendations for 2021. Has anything changed for the better or worse in terms of quality, must-have features, and value? Would you buy it again?

Thanks.

A rear camera is also a great idea. Someone was vandalizing my wife's car at work. They don't have any cameras on the building or parking lot.
Now she has a new car, and until the rear camera is installed, I put a several stickers, stating that this vehicle has 360° video cameras.
I was really pissed about the vandalizing and borrowed my friends truck for a few days and sat in parking lot of another business with a good view. I asked the business first. What I filmed was not a surprise, my wife's immediate supervisor, who is a 450# pig! Our lawyer said that we couldn't use it in court, but I wanted to know.
She spit Coke on the hood of my wife's car and gave it the finger.
I feel that $789. Camera is good insurance and we also get a discount from our insurance company.
This woman is working hard and being very careful about getting my wife fired. Well, my wife has been collecting hard data about this woman's costly mistakes at work.
So if my wife goes, fired/quit so does Pig!
Her new car has an advanced security system. When the rear cam is installed, any motion will trigger the system. So far the stickers are working, plus she parks where no one can park behind her for now.
Her company is too cheap to provide security cams. Which our lawyers said is in our favor because the building is isolated and constitutes a personal security failure according to state law.
Oh! Things are about to go to **** in a hand basket!!
The hog gave my wife a verbal beat down in front of her co worker's.

I’m still pleased with my Garmin Mini. I Have since added one to my wife’s van too.

Soon after, hers caught a blowout from a passing semi that sent a road gator right into her path and subsequently knocked the air dam and a chunk of the grill out of the van. The camera was good enough to capture the name on the side of the truck but not the license plate.

I wish I could report that it helped me recoup the damages but I didn’t pursue it. Used parts were really cheap and I didn’t think the value was worth the hassle so I just fixed it myself. And it kept an accident report off the car’s record.

The Mini will record license plate numbers but the resolution is low enough that it’s not 100%. Everything has to be just right.

Video in the dark is pretty good too.

The only gripe I have is that the newer one (in her van) chimes periodically when it senses a hard bump and takes a permanent recording. It’s not a real problem, just a distraction. My older one is silent. The newer one is also voice controlled if you want to tell it to take a
Photo or something. I didn’t set up that feature.

Sometimes the recorded videos of people passing on the shoulder or running stoplights are entertaining. I haven’t had any close calls or witnessed any accidents since installing them other than the tire issue. I think they are like backup generators on your house…if you have one you’ll never need it.

In short (too late!) I’d get another one if I had to do it again.

Steve
