Walleye Fan
What's up with Walleye Fan? They haven't updated their page in about 3 weeks. For awhile they had something new every couple of days. There should be no lack of items to write about with all the discussion regarding AIM.
I've actually found the articles somewhat interesting. I'm interested in finding more about the pro's in terms of what their real jobs are, hobbies, etc in addition to the fishing part of things. |

Walleye Fan is no more. I received an email from one of the three people who worked on it. They were all let go. The company that owns them decided to shut it down.
That's all I know. Juls

Intermedia?
I thought WalleyeFan was owned by Intermedia, obviously the same outfit that shut the PWT down. I can't imagine this a good thing for Walleye Insider magazine. I had heard they were going to keep publishing Walleye Insider and cover the various tourament circuits out there. If they can't maintain a website I doubt Walleye Insider will survive and if I does I would question the quality of the contents.

The site wasn't making a dime. Since it wasn't paying for itself to stay in business they couldn't justify paying three people and keeping it running.

Walleye fan was a start up site wasn't it? Most start up businesses need three years to get going before they begin to make a dime. I liked the site, but have to wonder why the quick kill? First the PWT and now Walleye Fan gone. If the fishing / marine world is that tough right now one has to wonder about AIM's timing in attempting to start a new circuit.

investments
Think about Intermedia...they paid millions for Primedia holdings...only a matter of time as it is all going to cave in on them....with major corporations with deep pockets like GM on the brink you have to believe companies that were at the tail end of high over priced buy outs are history...that includes the Sportsman's Channel, North American Whitetail and the rest of those over priced buy outs...but the thing with Web sites...anyone can start one....Juls get on your horse girl...I can see it now

I can imagine too that there have been a big increase in magazine printing costs over the last couple years and add onto that -- advertising spending has been curtailed by many companies in the last year. But then again, maybe InterMedia believes unless there is an immediate profit, then the venture is a failure and can it. As stated above, start-ups do take some time to turn a profit, but was it at least breaking even.
By the way, how long was it up and running, less than a year? |
