Default Chevy Silverado 1500 6.2L

I am in the market for a new truck and I have a few questions for Silverado 1500 6.2L owners on fuel mileage, towing and performance accessories. Current setup is 11’ Silverado 1500 5.3L with bags, 620FS with 250V/jack plate, 9.9K and gear. I have read reviews and watched comparison videos with other manufacturers (Ford, Dodge, Nissan, etc.), some have better numbers in certain areas but still going with GM. Thanks for your input.

How is everyday fuel mileage, mileage when towing/towing up hills?
Gear ratio? Seems these trucks most commonly are 3:23 but I have also seen the 3:42?
Any performance modifications that seem to help with towing & fuel mileage (will most likely put bags on next truck also)?

I have a Denali 6.2 with the 8 speed trans. MPG is great take it easy on the highway you can pull some good numbers. But when you buy toys and toy pullers who cares about the MPG.

Around town I can get up around 17 towing about the same and just highway mid 20s. Look at the Denali cost me an extra 2k to get one over the Suburban the way I wanted it.

If you are going to do a lot of towing get the factory tow package and at least 3.42 possible 3.73 the mileage will not be real different but the towing will be ,as your motor and gear will struggle less with the load. The 6.2 and 3.73s were my Plan B before I bought my last truck ,

A 6.2 and a 8 speed will tow your boat great. My wife has a Yukon and she gets 15-17 in town and on the highway get 20-21 as long as you keep your foot out of it which can be difficult because it is fun to drive. I have a 5.3 in my truck I bought last year and regret not going with the 6.2. My 5.3 will easily tow my boat but it’s nothing like the 6.2. The 5.3 and 6.2 get really close to the same mileage. When I trade my truck in a few years I will be paying more to get the 6.2.

I have a 2017 Sierra 1500, 6.2, 8 sd, 3.42 gears. I get 19 pulling my 1850 Tyee and 22-23 on the hwy just driving. It tows like a beast, best truck I've ever had.

That's excellent mileage. My 2017 Silverado with the 5.3 and 6 speed I get under 13 towing my 1850 Tyee. Looks like I may have to look at trading next year when the new body style comes out if I can get mileage like that.

Surprised me too, but go out to the Chevy Sliverado and Sierra forum and you'll see many threads on what good mileage the 6.2 gets over the 5.3 and other manufactures as well.

I had a chevy 1500 with the 6.2 and it pulled my 620 like a dream. The very reason I purchased the chevy with a 6.2 was my 5.3 struggled pulling my boat. My mileage was between 10 and 12 pulling my ranger. Empty running 65mph it would get 20 to 25 depending on the wind. That 6.2 motor lots of horsepower and torque.

I have since purchased a 5th wheel camper and traded for a duramax as I needed the added power.
