Default How fast towing?

How fast do you guys tow things? I'm thinking specifically a fifth wheel with a boat behind it or just pulling your boat. Maybe I'm getting old but I usually don't pull the boat over 70mph and when tandem I am about 65 and maybe 70mph sometimes. Just curious what others are doing?

I have a tandem axle go to South Dakota, speed limit 80 mph. At about 75 mine gets squirrelly, so I don’t go over 70, margin of safety.

I only have a Chevy, so I just keep it to the floor and rarely leave the right lane unless I am passing a guy in an even older Chevy...

You might want to post this in the Trailers and Tow Vehicles forum, you'll get the gamut from never go over 70 to 80 and above.

I tow between KC and LOTW (1600 miles roundtrip) and cruise about 75 or so on the Interstate. Make sure your trailer tires are properly inflated.

55 mph day and night it it gets one there in decent time with much better fuel mileage than towing at 70 or 80 mph.

Also, the lower speed increases safety and really reduces the strain on all vehicles involved.

When one is towing a boat, one is always on vacation. Why hurry through your vacation. Sit back, cruise and enjoy the trip as much as the final destination.

Best wishes.

Just a little over 65.
Around 70 seems to be a tipping point for reduced mpg on my truck.

I`m usually between 60- 65 on the Interstate ; My trailer tires are rated to 81 Mph cant imagine them holding up nearing that speed tho.

I tow At 70 on interstate and 60-65 on two lane
I wouldn’t want to try towing at 55 on the interstate or divided highway

I never towed the boat much.(a couple vacations a year) I have only had 2 trailers but I learned many boat trailer tires are not rated for 70 MPH and up! Blowouts on the trailer will get your attention, Single axel or tandom.(tandom is way better though) Even if your tow vehicle is adequate or better, check the speed rating on your trailer tires. Bob
