Default Best Crawler Harness Rigs

Hello, we used to fish single hook minnow spinners in Canada years ago, but just tried some two hook crawler harnesses last weekend on a stained N. MI lake with some success over trolling cranks. Some fish were in the weeds and some were suspended high over deeper water (15-20'). Between a few pike bite offs, I need to restock with some new two hook crawler harnesses. Any suggestions for best brands, hooks or colors? It seems like there are a lot of options now days. These will be mostly used on the same stained lake later this summer. FYI- I had an old account, but I couldn't get the password reset tonight. Thanks!

I think what you will find is most guys tie their own. That way you can use the line, hooks, beads, spacing, knots and clevis that you like best.

I run a three hook with a single and two trebles, but I am not fishing weedy areas.

I've been tying my own for many years and will never go back to buying them off the shelf. Inferior components and not being able to customize bead colors got me started tying my own. Hook size, hook spacing, bead size, bead colors, bead numbers, harness length etc. are all up to you. Try it, I think you'll enjoy tying your own. As far as blades go I paint my own. You can go all in and buy an air brush or simply use a small paint brush. If painting your own isn't appealing you can just buy blades to complete your harnesses.

I have been buying these: 50th Anniversary Lindy Rig Crawler

Yes I have tied my own in the past, but for $3.99 I bought a pile of them as its just easier. Not to mention I hate snelling hooks especially a crawler harness.

These are just more efficient and quite honestly easier to store for me.

I tie all my own and enough for all the other guys in our group. I experiment with colors, bead size, blade size, line size and hook size and style. Some things seem to work better than others, but making them, sometimes with my grandsons (and the combinations they come up with) make it fun and worthwhile. I tried to figure out what kind of cost I have in a batch of 50 and came up with about $.25 each. When they get bit off or lost to a snag, I don't feel so bad. Plus the action that a slo death hook, or the catch rate on a #2 octopus multiple hook rig is hard to beat. I make minnow, leech and multi hook crawler rigs, makes the wait for the trip a little more bearable.

I buy mine from a guy on Ebay- Genes spinners, 1.39 for classic 2 hook spinners, 2.69 for slow death with Smile blade. Quality and you can't beat the price.

Brunk,
Every make crawler harnesses with a single size 2 hook?

Normally, these are used for minnows, but when the fish are aggressive, it seems that the hook up and fish in the boat is as good or better with the single large hook as compared to multiple smaller hooks.

Also, I have found that at times, a crawler that is hooked in the middle of a single larger hook is often more effective than the same crawler that is simply nose hooked.

Be safe

Could you sent me a link to one of these? I searched e-bay and can find no "genes spinners" or any smile blades/slow death for that price at all.
